Martin started  out  playing  in  various  Dixieland  bands  in  South  London in the early  60’s. In 1965 he moved to Salisbury and, with friends started his own Jazz club mainly featuring  his own modern Jazz Quintet.  During this era he was also part of the Bob James Big Band, various dance bands and a “Chicago” and “Blood Sweat and Tears” style jazz rock band.

In 1975 Martin moved to the Reading area and could be seen with the likes of the Park Dance Orchestra and New Tones big bands  mainly on Baritone Sax, and “Midnight Sun” – a  progressive rock group.

During the 1990’s he was a member of “ Back to Basics” - a 5 piece rock band playing mostly original material. It was then the turn of blues ‘n rock as a member of “The Blues Doctors” rock n’ blues band  and “Hoodoo Shimmy” blues band who played at various festivals in Southern England and Wales. With The Pete Hamilton Comedy Band, Martin made regular appearances at Jagz in Ascot.

With the “Guilty Party” he got the chance to play for McLaren at the British Grand Prix and also did a Lakeside winter season.

 

Martin joined Chain Gang in 1995 and is currently the band’s longest serving member.
